Webinar on the COVID-19 Impact on the EfW and Waste Management Industry
On July 9, we held our webinar to present the key findings of the global survey on the COVID-19 Impact on the EfW & Waste Management Industry, which was conducted in June.
Since the COVID–19 Crisis (2020) is an unprecedented event, to get a first idea about its possible impact, we started with the historical analysis of the impact of the financial crisis and other disturbances on the EfW & waste management market.
The webinar gave an overview of the survey results and took a deeper look at critical uncertainties and COVID-19 assumptions. Also shown were scenarios developed for the EfW and waste management industry and the possible COVID-19 impacts on AVP’s 5-year market forecast.

AVP Scenario Planning Tool: Setting up your business for post-crisis recovery
Decision-making in a Complex and Ambiguous Environment: Setting up your business for post-crisis recovery
A natural approach to decision-making in high uncertainty situations is to:
- Collect and review any meaningful intelligence as fast as possible to get valuable input and guidance
- Consider possible scenarios, i.e. how the outside world may develop, what this would mean for us, and what we would do if either scenario was to materialize
- Evaluate all available data and “what ifs”, decide on a general set of assumptions and a course of action
- Thereafter, make consistent decisions (small and large), which will steer you in the right direction
AVP Scenario Planning and Strategy Sharpening Proposition
To work through these steps with the key management team in a structured and fast approach, AVP has developed a dedicated scenario development and planning process backed by its established business intelligence and expert knowledge.
Our scenario planning proposition is based on (a) understanding the world a business operates in, and (b) developing views on alternative worlds that a business may be operating in. Key business stakeholders will actively participate in developing alternative scenarios and assessing a potential impact each of them will have on their operations, finances and other. With input from AVP’s business intelligence practice, businesses will identify their blind spots, evaluate consequences and get asked the right questions to navigate through the possible alternative worlds and to develop a sound framework (a sharpened strategy) for “coming out of the Covid-19 crisis and speeding up in the new breeze”.
All process steps and workshops are held on-line, and participants are connected remotely. Therefore, the AVP Scenario Planning and Strategy Sharpening proposition is highly efficient and adaptable as to the number of involved team members and their location.
To discuss the AVP Scenario Planning proposition or how it can benefit businesses, please contact Suejean Asato to make an appointment: sj.asato(at)avp-group.net.

Succession but how: The different roles of entrepreneurs
Under this title, Rahn + Bodmer, the oldest private bank in Zurich, organized an event for entrepreneurs and owners of family businesses on November 18, 2019 where A. Vaccani & Partners (AVP) shed light on the challenges and opportunities of selling a company as part of a succession solution. The example of the sale of Lamineries Matthey SA, where AVP represented the owners, showed the successful handover of a family-owned company to an industrial buyer that is also a family-owned company.
Preparation, support and implementation of a successful successor solution is a multi-month, complex, interdisciplinary process that must be carefully planned and structured. Succession planning has a project character and, in most cases, cannot be handled by the entrepreneur in addition to day-to-day business without professional external support.
Under competent project management, many topics have to be addressed: verification of the strategy and the business plan, valuation of the company, creation of professional sales documentation, identification of potential buyers as well as tax and legal aspects.
AVP has handled more than 100 transactions in recent years.
Please find below the links to the two presentations, which are available in German only. If you would like to receive more information regarding this project as well as others, please feel free to contact us.
